The hookah tobacco from Aino is said to be unique according to the manufacturer, and we think there’s something to it! On one hand, the manufacturer impresses with high quality, and on the other, the different flavors offer intense and extraordinary taste experiences. In addition to the flavor, the Osnabrück-based tobacco also stands out for its excellent smoke production and heat resistance.
At the 2023 Hookah Fair in Frankfurt, Aino introduced their Aino Dark Blend tobacco for the first time, based on stronger Burley tobacco. Previously, the brand only offered Virginia tobacco blends. At the end of September 2024, the Osnabrück-based producer also launched AINO STRONG, a revised and very strong version of AINO Burley tobacco blends.
By now, there are 27 flavors from the AINO brand. The portfolio has grown steadily over the past few years, and there should be something for everyone. Of the 21 flavors, 18 are from the Virginia line and 9 are from the Dark line.

Aino doesn’t do things halfway. It’s part of the philosophy of the Osnabrück producer to put a lot of care into developing a product before it reaches the public. So it’s no surprise to us that the adaptation of the popular Virginia blends to Dark Blend took almost three years before being presented to consumers.
According to the manufacturer, nearly two years went into developing the Burley base tobacco, and you can definitely taste it! Before the release of the AINO Dark line, Dark Blends from Russian producers like Darkside Tobacco or Blackburn were almost the only options available in Germany. That’s why it was so important for AINO to bring a worthy representative of this genre to the market.
The aromatic Dark Blend from AINO combines the kick of a medium nicotine level with a pleasantly smooth smoke experience. This means that even if you’re more accustomed to milder tobacco, a bowl of Aino Dark Tobacco won’t completely knock you off your feet, though you will definitely notice the higher nicotine level.
In our opinion, it’s an ideal dark hookah tobacco to dive into the world of Dark Blends!
In the Dark Blend line, AINO has released a whole batch of new flavors, perfectly tailored to the new Burley mix. Even two of the most popular flavors, OHA and Black Ice, have been adapted to the Dark Blend base. Aino's selection of Burley tobacco flavors includes the following:
Since it was important to the manufacturer to authentically adapt the two flavors from the original Virginia blend to the new, stronger tobacco variety, these also had to undergo a critical review. They definitely didn’t want to disappoint the fan base with a half-hearted copy of the original.
The new Burley base made it necessary, for example, to remove the ice from the Black Ice blend because it didn’t harmonize well in the Dark Blend version. The Dark version of Black Ice is therefore "just" an intense and authentic blackberry called Aino Black, which tastes fantastic and has also been very well received by our customers.
Due to popular demand from the community, AINO started developing an even stronger Dark Blend product line called AINO STRONG. As we’ve come to expect from the manufacturer, this new Burley blend was reworked until it perfectly matched the brand's flavors and provided a pleasantly smooth smoke. The result is a tobacco that performs excellently in both multi-hole bowls and funnel bowls, offering a rich, intense flavor experience and strength comparable to MustH or Blackburn tobacco. Overall, the new AINO STRONG provides a well-rounded flavor experience that should be a "Great Match" for advanced and long-time Dark Blend enthusiasts.
Most of our customers find Aino Black Ice or Aino Oha to be the best among the Virginia flavors, and we share this opinion! That’s probably why AINO directly transposed these flavors to all the new tobacco varieties.
Black Ice is an intense blackberry tobacco with a cool note. This blend is also very popular among major hookah content creators like Marvin from ShishaWG or Doelid!
The Aino Oha tobacco tastes like Brazilian guava and is, in our opinion, a very unique flavor. Especially if you’ve been smoking for a long time and are looking for something different from your usual favorite flavors, Aino's OHA is an excellent choice!
But we can also recommend all the other Virginia flavors from the brand. If you like the fruit or flavor listed for the tobacco, then there’s a high chance you’ll also enjoy the corresponding tobacco from Aino, as the flavors are incredibly well-captured!
Most of our customers love the Aino Dark Great Frut and the Aino Dark Oha.
The Geat Frut is an intense and strong grapefruit tobacco, and the Dark Oha combines the intensely fruity flavour of Brazilian guava with the cooling freshness of ice. These blends are also very popular with the big hookah content creators such as Marvin from ShishaWG or Doelid!
In our opinion, the Aino Dark Black Oha tobacco is a very unusual flavour. Especially if you have been smoking for a long time and are looking for a change from your favourite varieties, the Dark OHA from Aino is an excellent choice!
But we can also recommend all of the brand's other varieties. If you are already familiar with the Virginia blends from Aino, then there is a very good chance that you will also like the Dark Tobacco from Aino.
Aino tobacco is designed for the phunnel with a smokebox. According to the manufacturer, this setup gives you the best results for the tobacco. We can also confirm this from our experience.
However, you can also smoke the brand's Virginia tobacco in a classic hookah set-up with a clay bowl and chimney attachment. The only difference here is that the flavour and smoke development is slightly less intense.
With Burley tobacco, on the other hand, we advise against using a combination of a bowl and chimney attachment. If you want to use a setup other than a phunnel with smokebox, you can use a multi-hole head with HMD. In this setup, however, the nicotine of the tobacco is more noticeable and the tobacco is therefore somewhat stronger. It doesn't matter whether the HMD or the smokebox is made of aluminium or stainless steel.

There are currently 21 varieties of AINO. Of these, 15 varieties are based on Virginia tobacco and 6 varieties are based on Burley tobacco. According to information from the manufacturer, however, new varieties are constantly being developed!
In our opinion: YES! We have tested the tobacco ourselves extensively and are very convinced of the AINO hookah tobacco.
AINO is manufactured in Germany, in Osnabrück to be precise! In this production facility, strict attention is paid to hygiene and cleanliness and only the best ingredients are used.
Unfortunately, we cannot say exactly when new flavours will be launched on the market. However, the manufacturer always provides timely information on its own AINO Instagram profile!

As a general rule, you can mix any hookah tobacco with other varieties. Of course, this also applies to AINO brand tobacco.
